One of the Badger Fisherman's League's main focuses is to work on conservation projects in the state of Wisconsin. Here are our current projects and where we are with each of them at this point in time:

Lepper Pond and the Menomonee River in Menomonee Falls:
This has been the main focus of the Badger Fisherman's League for the last few years. The club has done the following three projects:

1. Site Improvement on Lepper Pond:
The club as worked with the city of Menomonee Falls, the Wisconsin DNR, and other organizations to dredge out the pond, plant fish cribs in the pond, rip rap the shorelines, improve the area surrounding the pond, and create an Urban Fishing Pond.

Dick Meer stocks Bluegills into Lepper Dam Pond.

Fish Species in the Lepper Dam Millpond:
With a combination of stocking and natural reproduction, the Lepper Dam location on the Menomonee River currently has these fish species available: Largemouth Bass, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Green Sunfish, Pumpkinseed Sunfish, Yellow Bullhead, Channel Catfish, White Sucker, Creek Chub, Common Shiner, Golden Shiner, other various minnow species, and Rainbow Trout*.

  2. Fish stocking:
The club has worked with the Wisconsin DNR, various other local clubs, and a fish hatchery in Iowa to plant Bluegills, Black Crappies, Largemouth Bass, and Channel Catfish into the pond.
3. River Clean Up:
The Club has cleaned up the River stretches from the Germantown Menomonee Falls border to Lepper Pond on a few occasions.

Menomonee River Fish Study:
The club has started its study of the Menomonee River in Germantown in cooperation with Wisconsin Lutheran College to monitor the fish populations on a yearly basis. The results and information are available by contacting the club or the Biology department at Wisconsin Lutheran College.

Vernon Marsh:
The club has worked with the Wisconsin DNR in the Vernon Marsh area for a number of years to improve the habitat for wood ducks. Every year the club repairs houses placed in the marsh in years past, and constructs and puts up new ones.
